Motivation and engagement are incredibly important factors in learning activities. That’s why teachers and projects like ours work hard to achieve and maintain this.
One of the main founding aims of Arabic Workshop was to address the learner dropout problem. We knew that producing engaging content was key to this. Therefore, it’s no surprise that we took a keen interest in the promising medium called whiteboard animation.
The Value of Whiteboard Animation
No doubt many of you will have seen the amazing RSAnimate productions that went viral a few years ago. The anonymous, but highly talented illustrator brought life to short talks and lectures. This naturally drew in the attention of so many. I was personally surprised to find them so engaging that I actually watched the lectures until the very end.
Well, it turns out that this wasn’t magic! Have a look at this whiteboard animation discussing its proven benefits for retention of knowledge and engagement.
How can Whiteboard Animation actually help?
Software to automate whiteboard animation has gained increasing popularity. As a result, we have seen an abundance of generic, text heavy, stock-based productions in the last few years. Unfortunately, their main goal seems to be a reduction of costs rather than conveying knowledge in an engaging way. Understandably, this has drawn a lot criticism causing some to feel that the medium is “cheap and nasty” or “dated”.
However, the psychological and pedagogical benefits of whiteboard animation remain significant. Thus, we believe that customised, bespoke and high-quality creative content leads to engagement which improves the learning experience. With this in mind, we have put considerable thought and care into our scripting and storyboarding processes.
Give Arabic Workshop a try…we think you will agree!
